Why We're Changing Things Now: The Next Chapter for HCG CPA + Advisory

If you’ve been following along, you know there are some visible changes happening at HCG. Our office is being remodeled, our brand is evolving, and soon things are going to look a little different around here. But these changes aren’t happening simply because we decided it was time for a new logo or a fresh coat of paint. They’re happening because our firm has evolved, and we want our brand and our space to better reflect the business we have become and where we’re going next.

Over the years, the work we do with clients has naturally expanded. Tax preparation, accounting, payroll, financial statements, and compliance work are still an important part of what we do, but they aren’t the whole story anymore. More and more, our conversations with business owners happen well before a tax return is due. We’re talking about tax planning, entity structure, cash flow, compensation, retirement strategies, growth decisions, and the financial questions that come with running a business.

That shift has reinforced something we’ve believed for a long time: some of the most valuable work a CPA can do happens before there is a problem to solve.

A tax return tells us what already happened. Good advisory work asks what is likely to happen next and what we can do about it now. For a business owner, that difference can be significant. There is a big difference between discovering an issue at tax time and having a conversation months earlier that gives you an opportunity to address it.

That more proactive approach has increasingly become part of who we are as a firm, and we reached a point where the way HCG looked from the outside didn’t fully represent what was happening inside the business.

That’s a big reason we’re making these changes now.

A Space That Reflects How We Work

The office remodel is probably the most visible part of the transition, but it’s about more than updating finishes, furniture, or colors. The way people work has changed, and so has the way we want to work with our clients.

We want our office to be a place where business owners can sit down and have meaningful conversations about their businesses. Sometimes that conversation will be about taxes. Other times, it might be about whether an S-Corp election still makes sense, how much cash the business should be retaining, what an owner can do to prepare for retirement, or how a major investment could affect the company over the next several years.

Those conversations require a different kind of environment. We want a space that feels professional and modern, but also comfortable and collaborative. The goal is to create an office that better supports the way our team works together and the way we want clients to experience HCG.

In that sense, the remodel and the rebrand are really part of the same project. Both are about making sure the outside of the firm reflects what HCG is becoming on the inside.

Why HCG CPA + Advisory

The addition of “+ Advisory” to our name is intentional.

Being a CPA firm remains at the center of who we are. That CPA foundation matters because our advice is grounded in the financial and tax realities of our clients’ businesses. But we also want our name to make it clear that our role doesn’t have to begin and end with preparing a return or completing a compliance requirement.

For the business owners we work with, financial decisions rarely fit neatly into separate boxes. A decision about compensation can affect taxes. An equipment purchase can affect cash flow. Entity structure can influence both tax planning and long-term strategy. A retirement plan can be an employee benefit, a personal wealth-building tool, and a business tax strategy at the same time.

That’s why we believe business owners benefit from having a CPA who understands the bigger picture. Our goal is to help clients connect those decisions and think ahead rather than waiting until year-end to find out what happened.

“CPA + Advisory” better describes that relationship and the direction we’re continuing to build toward.

Why Now?

There wasn’t one particular event that made us decide this was the year everything needed to change. In many ways, the opposite is true. The change has been happening gradually for years.

The firm evolved. Our team evolved. Technology changed how we work. The needs of business owners changed. The conversations we were having with clients became broader and more strategic. Eventually, it became clear that our physical space and our brand needed to catch up.

We also believe there is value in being intentional about where you’re going. That’s advice we often give business owners, and it applies to us too. Businesses can continue doing things a certain way simply because that’s how they’ve always been done, or they can occasionally ask whether the way they operate today still supports where they want to be tomorrow.

We asked ourselves that question about HCG.

The answer led us here.

Built for What Comes Next

A remodel eventually gets finished. A new sign goes up. A new logo starts to feel familiar. But those things aren’t really the destination.

They’re signals of where we’re headed.

We’re building a firm designed around the needs of business owners who want to be proactive about taxes, finances, and the decisions that shape their companies. We want to help our clients anticipate opportunities and problems earlier, understand their numbers more clearly, and make decisions with a better view of what those decisions mean down the road.

That’s why we’re changing things now.

Not because we’re trying to become a completely different firm, but because we want HCG to more clearly reflect the firm we’ve already been becoming—and the one we intend to build from here.

Built for Business Owners. CPA Led. Strategy Focused.

If you’re a business owner looking for a more proactive relationship with your CPA, we’d welcome the opportunity to talk. Whether the question is tax planning, business structure, cash flow, or simply what you should be thinking about next, those are exactly the kinds of conversations HCG CPA + Advisory is being built to have.
