Founded in 2017, Hunsche CPA Group is a Fort Wayne, Indiana CPA and advisory firm built around a simple idea: business owners deserve more from their CPA than tax returns and financial statements.

What began with a single client has grown and evolved through nearly a decade of serving businesses and individuals throughout Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana. Along the way, we have experienced many of the same challenges our clients face—growth, acquisitions, hiring, technology changes, difficult decisions, and ultimately deciding what kind of business we wanted to build.

Our firm was originally inspired by two respected, locally owned Fort Wayne CPA practices: Lewis CPA Group and Krouse Kern & Co. They demonstrated that a CPA firm could provide high-quality professional services while remaining personal, local, and deeply connected to the community. That philosophy continues to influence HCG today.

Over the years, our services have expanded beyond traditional tax preparation and accounting. Today, we combine tax planning, accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and business advisory services to help our clients better understand their numbers and use that information to make better business decisions.

Technology plays an important role in how we work, but it doesn't replace the relationship. We use modern accounting tools to make compliance work more efficient so we can spend more time doing what we believe matters most: talking with our clients, identifying opportunities, solving problems, and helping business owners plan for what comes next.

Because at HCG, accounting isn't just about recording what already happened.

It's about using that information to help make the next decision better.

The history behind Hunsche CPA Group reaches back more than three decades in Northeast Indiana.

1989 — Where Our Roots Began

In March 1989, Thomas Rockefeller and John Faylor founded Thomas Rockefeller Inc., providing accounting services throughout Northeast Indiana under the names Management and Tax Services and Premier Payroll. Shortly thereafter, John assumed full ownership and day-to-day leadership of the firm. Over the next several decades, Management and Tax Services grew steadily, serving generations of local businesses and families and eventually becoming part of a nationwide network of independently owned accounting firms operating under the Management and Tax Services name.

2017 — Hunsche CPA Group Is Founded

After 16 years of experience working with CPA firms in the Fort Wayne area, Michael Hunsche founded Hunsche CPA Group in 2017.

Starting with a single client, Michael began building the firm through relationships with local business owners while also connecting with CPAs approaching retirement who wanted to ensure their clients would continue to receive personal, local service.

Those relationships created the foundation for HCG's next stage of growth.

2020–2024 — A Period of Rapid Growth

Beginning in 2020, Hunsche CPA Group entered a period of significant expansion through a series of strategic mergers and acquisitions. Over the next several years, HCG completed an acquisition or merger each year, eventually growing to nearly 25 employees across three Northeast Indiana locations. That period gave HCG firsthand experience with many of the same challenges our business clients encounter: managing rapid growth, integrating acquisitions, developing teams, adopting new technology, controlling costs, and determining where to invest limited resources.

2023 — History Comes Full Circle

One of the most significant milestones occurred in 2023 when Management and Tax Services merged into Hunsche CPA Group. The combination brought HCG's history full circle, connecting the firm Michael founded in 2017 with an accounting practice whose roots dated back to 1989.More importantly, it allowed decades of local client relationships and institutional knowledge to continue into another generation.

2025–2026 — Defining the Firm We Wanted to Become

After several years focused on growth, HCG began asking a different question:

Instead of simply becoming a larger CPA firm, what if we focused on becoming a better resource for business owners?

That question led to a deliberate transformation of the firm. HCG consolidated its operations into a single Fort Wayne office, embraced technology and automation to make traditional accounting work more efficient, and shifted its focus toward tax planning, business advisory, outsourced accounting, and CFO-level guidance. The goal was no longer growth for the sake of growth. It was creating the capacity to know our clients better, understand their businesses more deeply, and spend more time helping them make decisions about what comes next.

Today — Built for Business Owners

Today, Hunsche CPA Group combines decades of local accounting history with a modern approach to CPA and advisory services. Our firm may look different than it did during our years of rapid expansion, but that evolution has given us something valuable: firsthand experience building, acquiring, growing, integrating, and ultimately redesigning a business.

We bring those experiences to the table when working with our clients.
