Our Story
Founded in 2017, Hunsche CPA Group is a Fort Wayne, Indiana CPA firm built on a simple principle: provide honest, reliable, and transparent tax and accounting services to our clients. What began with a single client has grown into a full-service accounting firm service small businesses throughout Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana — with firsthand experience navigating the same challenges our clients face as business owners.
Our firm was inspired by two respected, locally owned CPA practices in Lewis CPA Group and Krouse Kern & Co. These firms set the standard for providing high-quality accounting and tax services with a personal, local approach. That commitment to community-focused service continues to guide everything we do.
Hunsche CPA Group offers comprehensive tax and accounting services in Fort Wayne, including advisory services, payroll, bookkeeping, tax preparation and tax planning. We work with a wide range of clients—from startups and family-owned businesses to well-established companies across many industries.
We leverage modern accounting technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining a hands-on, personalized approach. Our team works directly with clients to explain their financial information in clear, practical terms. Our History
The roots of Hunsche CPA Group trace back more than three decades in Northeast Indiana.
In March 1989, Thomas Rockefeller and John Faylor founded Thomas Rockefeller Inc., providing accounting services throughout Northeast Indiana under the names Management and Tax Services and Premier Payroll. Shortly thereafter, John Faylor assumed full ownership of the firm, renaming the parent company and taking over day-to-day operations. Under his leadership, the firm experienced steady growth over the next several decades and eventually became part of a nationwide group of accounting firms operating under the Management and Tax Services name.
In 2017, Michael Hunsche decided it was time to plant his own flag and founded Hunsche CPA Group. Drawing on 16 years of experience working with CPA firms in the Fort Wayne area, Michael began building his firm by connecting with local business owners and reaching out to CPAs approaching retirement—one of whom was Cynthia Orban, an early and meaningful connection in the firm’s growth.
Beginning in 2020, Hunsche CPA Group entered a period of intentional expansion through strategic mergers and acquisitions. Between 2020 and 2024, the firm completed acquisitions each year, growing to nearly 25 employees across three locations. The most significant milestone came in 2023 with the merger of Management and Tax Services into Hunsche CPA Group, bringing the firm’s history full circle and preserving decades of client relationships and local service.
In 2025, Michael shifted the firm’s focus toward becoming a more advisory-based CPA practice—a vision aligned with the firm’s original mission and one that John Faylor himself had hoped to pursue prior to his retirement. This transition reflects a commitment to providing deeper insight, proactive planning, and strategic guidance rather than simply transactional services.
Today, Hunsche CPA Group operates two offices in Northeast Indiana and serves small business owners and individuals who want more than just a tax return. Our focus is on delivering knowledge, ideas, and insight into tax planning and business operations through personal relationships and local expertise—continuing a legacy of trusted service built over decades.

Michael founded Hunsche CPA Group in 2017 after spending 16 years working with accounting firms throughout the Fort Wayne area. A proud native of the Summit City, Michael graduated from Homestead High School before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Ball State University in 2001.
Michael’s practice is focused on helping small business owners navigate an increasingly complex tax code so they can stay focused on what they do best—running their businesses. He enjoys solving problems, explaining tax and accounting concepts in plain English, and building long-term relationships with clients as their businesses grow and support the local community.
Having worked in both small and large firms, Michael believes the personalized, small-business approach best aligns with his values and personality. He is committed to being upfront and honest with his clients, providing clear guidance that helps them stay compliant while maximizing tax efficiency and long-term success.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and their five children, attending concerts and sporting events, and enjoying music. An avid music fan, he has played the drums since 1991 and appreciates just about every style of music.
Heather Zion

Heather got her start in Accounting in 2004 when she began working with her father, Richard Walker, who owned Richard Walker CPA. She worked as an office manager and learned various accounting, tax and bookkeeping skills.
Her favorite part of her job is working with and helping clients and reconciling books. She is married with two children, one grandchild, one cat and three granddogs.
In her free time heather enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, taking the dogs for walks on the Pufferbelly Trail and watching The Office.
Jason Marquardt

Jason was born and raised in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Snider High School before earning his MBA and Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Trine University in May 2023. Jason joined the firm shortly after graduating as a Staff Accountant and is in the process of sitting for the CPA exam. He enjoys building relationships with his clients and helping them understand the financial side of their business. He is recently married and has one crazy puppy and three fuzzy cats.
In his free time, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and his dog, Loki. He is a huge hockey fan and has played for most of his life. He enjoys watching hockey and playing any chance he gets. He also loves watching Marvel movies and shows when he has the time.
Nancy Lamothe

Nancy has been working since 1986 in areas of business including purchasing, receiving, sales, and customer service, including management roles. Starting in 2005 she expanded her experience as an office manager/business manager, giving her knowledge of bookkeeping responsibilies.
She is married and has one dog and three cats at home along with a son living in the Fort Wayne area. In her free time, Nancy enjoys helping people of all ages find or expand their love of dance at a local dance studio.

Lisa has been with HCG since it's inception, it was actually her working full time that afforded Michael to take the leap and start the firm. In 2020 she began to run our Southwest office on a part time basis, then in 2021 she left the purchasing department of a large local manufacturing firm to join our North office full-time. She has worked with local business owners since moving to Fort Wayne in 1999 in various capacities developing her managerial and organizational skills.
Lisa is married to Michael, and they have five children between the two of them. When she is not in the office she enjoys working in her garden, watching the kids participate in sports, traveling with her family and attending Iowa Hawkeye sporting events.
Dohnet McFalls

Dohnet joined the company in February 2022 after working in the service and hotel industry. She enjoys being in a company where she can build so many diverse relationships and help our clients. Dohnet is in charge of the communications coming in to our company and is the first person you will see when you come to our office.
When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family. She has two little boys who keep her busy and also enjoys watching NFL football (Go Steelers!) and occasionally helps out at the Grand Wayne Convention Center at her old job.
